TIME and Statista unveil top 250 EdTech companies for 2024, highlighting industry shifts

In response to the profound disruptions to traditional education spurred by the global pandemic, TIME and Statista have joined forces once again to present their ranking of the top 250 EdTech companies for the year 2024. The spotlight remains firmly fixed on technological solutions and tools aimed at facilitating the seamless continuation of lessons. This spotlight has not strayed. With the rise of Generative AI, the sector continues to experience a period of reflection on traditional practices and digital transformation.

Among the top-ranking companies, a significant proportion have distinguished themselves by focusing on providing robust online learning platforms. This trend signals a fundamental shift in the delivery of education, with online modalities proving to be not merely a temporary workaround during times of crisis, but rather a lasting fixture in the educational ecosystem.

The rankings are based on a comprehensive evaluation formula that takes into account both financial strength and industry impact. Leading the pack in 2024 is Eruditus, which reported a staggering revenue of close to $400 million for the financial year ending in June 2023, achieving a 75% increase over the previous year. Eruditus currently offers online courses from over 80 prestigious universities worldwide, including renowned institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Cambridge, and MIT. With a footprint spanning 80 countries, Eruditus boasts an impressive track record of educating over half a million individuals.

A noteworthy observation from this year’s rankings is the dominance of the United States, which accounts for more than one-third of the top 250 slots. China follows closely behind, comprising 10% of the list, while the United Kingdom secures just over 6%.

In addition to the main rankings, Statista and TIME have also unveiled a “Rising Stars” list, highlighting organisations that have demonstrated the highest revenue growth rates over the past three years. Check them out here.
