As of June 15, Sarawak has successfully rolled out a total of 774 continuous professional development programs focusing on digital and information and communication technology (ICT). These initiatives are part of a broader effort to modernise and enhance the educational landscape in the region.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh announced that a substantial number of educators—81,791 in total—have participated in these programs. The training aims to equip teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and expertise to keep pace with the rapidly changing demands of the education sector.
In 2023, 19 teachers from Sarawak were designated as Guru Peneraju Generasi Digital (GPGD). These educators underwent specialised training provided by strategic partners, enabling them to share their insights and experiences with fellow teachers. So far, 8,011 teachers have benefited from the guidance of these GPGDs.
To further support these professional development efforts, 27 Teachers’ Activity Centres and Educational Technology Resource Centres across Sarawak have been outfitted with Digital Studios and Digital Maker Hubs. These facilities are designed to facilitate effective training for teachers in digital-related subjects.
In collaboration with Pixlr, the Ministry of Education has also trained 92 teachers in Sarawak to enhance their competence in utilising artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education has upgraded fibre technology in schools throughout the state. This upgrade has increased internet access speeds from 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps, as part of a new internet service procurement plan spanning from July 2024 to June 2025. This enhancement is expected to significantly improve the digital learning environment for both teachers and students.
