LG AI Research, the artificial intelligence think tank of LG Group, has entered into a strategic partnership with UNESCO to create an educational course on AI ethics. The agreement was signed during the AI Seoul Summit, where both parties committed to establishing an advisory group of international experts by the end of the year.
The AI ethics education course is expected to launch by the end of 2025. LG has indicated that preliminary progress on the course may be shared at the AI Action Summit in Paris. The course will be accessible to everyone through UNESCO’s Global AI Ethics and Governance Observatory platform.
In collaboration, LG and UNESCO will collect and analyse AI ethics practice cases from a wide range of stakeholders, including governments, businesses, academia, and civil society. These cases will inform the development of educational programs designed for both industry and policy applications.
Kim Soo-hyun, director of UNESCO Asia and Pacific, stated, “Beyond developing the course, both parties will also foster a global community for the ethical practice of AI. This project will promote responsible AI development and deployment and foster ethical innovation globally.”
Further, LG and UNESCO plan to engage in additional activities to raise awareness of AI ethics. These initiatives will include hosting international events and forums, as well as exploring new projects aimed at promoting ethical AI practices.
Bae Kyung-hoon, chief of LG AI Research, emphasised the importance of the initiative, saying, “To ensure AI safety, it is necessary to enhance the awareness of AI ethics among those researching and formulating policies.”
