Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ayamn Ashour, has underscored the government’s dedication to bolstering the science and technology sector within universities, with a particular emphasis on computer science, information technology (IT), and artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking on the significance of advancing these fields, Minister Ashour highlighted the strategic importance attached by the political leadership towards enhancing the technological landscape in accordance with Egypt Vision 2030. This national initiative aims to position Egypt as a leading regional hub for innovation and technology.
As part of this vision, Minister Ashour announced a substantial increase in the number of colleges specialised in computer science, IT, and AI. During the academic year 2023-2024, the count has risen to 91 institutions, signifying a concerted effort towards nurturing expertise in these critical domains.
Furthermore, Egypt’s higher education sector has witnessed a notable surge in enrolment within technology and AI departments. Minister Ashour revealed that the number of students enrolled in these specialised colleges has reached an impressive 106,431, marking a significant milestone in fostering a skilled workforce for the nation’s technological future. Of particular note is the addition of 38,000 students who joined these programs in the current academic year alone.
The expansion of educational institutions and the increase in student enrolment underscore Egypt’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement. With a growing focus on science and technology, Egypt is poised to make substantial strides towards achieving its ambitious goals outlined in Egypt Vision 2030.
